CROSS ROADS, TX — A 19-year-old college student from North Texas was killed in a crash two weeks ago after police say an intoxicated driver struck the vehicle she was riding in near the intersection of US Highway 380 and 377. Cross Roads police arrested 33-year-old Samuel Moses and charged him with intoxicated manslaughter and unlawfully carrying a weapon.
Authorities said the collision involved four vehicles and left several other people with minor injuries. The victim’s mother, Vanesa Ramirez, said her daughter Crystal De Luna had been out with her boyfriend when the crash happened. Ramirez said the family is still struggling to absorb the loss.
Mother Describes Loss
Ramirez said she cannot make sense of returning home to a daughter who will not walk through the door again. In interviews, she described grief mixed with anger at the man accused in the case and said the family feels left behind while he was released on bond.
She said Crystal was her best friend and that the pain has been especially heavy because the young woman had her whole future ahead of her. De Luna had a brother and two younger sisters, and her mother said she wanted to become an ultrasound technician and work with babies…
