HONOLULU (KHON2) — A tropical cyclone may impact some of the islands this weekend, the National Weather Service of Honolulu reported on Aug. 10.
If a cyclone forms, which is likely, it will be named Lala. This would mark the first system originating in the Central Pacific during the 2026 hurricane season.
The area of disturbed weather is about 1,100 miles east-southeast of Hawaiʻi. Development is forecasted for mid-week, with the potential cyclone predicted to move toward the west-northwest, NWS said.
“There’s a great deal of uncertainty with this system, significantly so, because it hasn’t formed yet; there’s no distinct center.” said Warning Coordination Meteorologist John Bravender. “Computer models need something to latch onto to forecast that out in time.”…
