Red lights exist for a reason, and a driver in Redmond, Washington, got a pretty dramatic reminder of that fact last week. On Thursday, Aug. 6, around 5:20 p.m., a vehicle blew through a red light in the 18800 block of Redmond Way and slammed into another car that had the right of way. The impact was hard enough to flip the vehicle onto its roof, turning a routine evening commute into a scene straight out of a stunt reel.
The good news, and it’s a big one, is that nobody was seriously hurt. Redmond Police confirmed the crash was non-injury, which is a small miracle considering a car ended up upside down in the middle of an intersection. Sometimes physics is kind. Other times it just wants to make a point.
Redmond officers are treating this crash as Exhibit A in their August traffic safety campaign, since the timing could not have worked out more perfectly, or ironically, depending on how you look at it. August is National Traffic Safety Awareness Month, and police have been running speed and distracted-driving patrols all month to try to prevent incidents like this in the first place…
