Albany Sanatani Mandir, the Capital Region’s first Bengali Hindu temple, will host a two-day event this weekend to celebrate its first anniversary as a space for the region’s growing Bengali community to worship and connect.
Temple President Nirupam Biswas said the celebration provides an opportunity for the greater community to learn about Hinduism and its traditions. The event, which is free and open to everyone, starts at 12:30 p.m. Saturday and noon on Sunday at 387 Krumkill Road. Local leaders will join on the first day as designated special guests, and prashad, a sacred food in the religion, will be served.
Over the past year, Biswas said the temple has celebrated several milestones. After the former church building was purchased and renovated, more and more families began attending services at the temple. Biswas said the number of attendees has doubled since this time last year…
