ANN ARBOR, MI – Two bakeries in Washtenaw County are under investigation for stealing tips from workers, according to filings in the county’s civil court.
The Washtenaw County Prosecutor’s Office received approval by the court on Aug. 7 to launch a civil investigation into Ann Arbor’s House of Chimney Cakes and Life is Sweet Bakery and Café in Milan on allegations they were not distributing tips to their respective employees, Washtenaw County Circuit Court confirmed to MLive.
The approved petitions allow the prosecutor’s office to subpoena for records and testimony to determine if the companies violated the Michigan Consumer Protection Act. It is not the same as a civil complaint, which is the beginning of a lawsuit…
