To our neighbors across Alachua and Marion Counties:
We know Dr. Xavier Monroe. We know where he comes from because it is where many of us come from, too. He grew up a first-generation college student in East Gainesville, went on to earn his Ph.D. at Stanford, and worked on policy at the federal level and across the nation. Following his education, he could have gone anywhere, but he did not. He came home. During the hardest days of the pandemic, he taught in our Title I schools in the same neighborhoods where he was raised.
