Renting a U-Haul pickup and immediately using it for a street takeover is already a questionable plan. According to San Diego police, however, one 18-year-old driver allegedly managed to turn that stunt into the starting point of a much larger investigation.
Police say the teenager was caught doing donuts and burnouts in a rented U-Haul pickup at an intersection in San Diego’s Scripps Ranch neighborhood. The spinning Chevrolet Silverado apparently left enough damage behind that the city estimated roadway repairs at $5,153.
The arrest might have ended as another bizarre sideshow story, except investigators say the suspect was already on their radar. Authorities subsequently connected him to online videos allegedly documenting other dangerous driving incidents around San Diego, including footage involving a Ford Mustang weaving through freeway traffic…
