Mayor Christopher Taylor misses first City Council meeting in nearly a year

The Ann Arbor City Council met in Larcom City Hall Monday evening for a brief meeting, as Mayor Christopher Taylor was absent for the first time since Aug. 18, 2025.

Taylor will conclude his 12-year tenure as mayor in November, following his loss to Washtenaw County Commissioner Yousef Rabhi in the Aug. 4 Democratic mayoral primary.

The meeting began with public comment, in which Rebecca Arends — a social worker who ran against incumbent Councilmember Cynthia Harrison in the Ward 1 City Council race — congratulated Harrison on her victory. Arends also criticized the Council’s approach to maintaining downtown, and said the recently launched Downtown Service Team has not adequately cleaned up the area…
