Kalamazoo-area ice rink, Wings West, reopens under a new name

TEXAS TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WOOD) — The Wings West indoor ice rink has undergone major renovations, reopening under the new name Biggby Coffee Ice Cube Kalamazoo.

The complex was bought out by Black Bear Sports Group, a Maryland-based company, in late 2025 after initially closing its doors due to a “severe failure” at its ice plant, according to a Sept. 2025 social post made by Wings West.

After the repairs and renovations to the arena were completed, the Biggby Coffee Ice Cube Kalamazoo hosted its first community open house from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday.

“A lot of blood sweat and tears went into this building, a lot of late nights, it was a rollercoaster of emotions some days but we have such an awesome team here that has dedicated a lot of time and energy and love into this building to get it back up for the community,” General Manager of the facility Bryce Goulah told News 8.

At the event, attendees could take skating lessons or participate in a free open skate. Families were also encouraged to register for a new 6-week youth program, “Take a Shot at Hockey,” created by Black Bear Sports Group to encourage first time players starting as young as 4 years old…
