Kansas City man accused of starting fire that killed his mother

KANSAS CITY —A Kansas City man faces charges in connection to a deadly house fire that occurred Monday in Kansas City, Missouri.

Ryan I. Willis, 36, is charged with 2nd Degree Felony Murder and 1st Degree Arson, according to Jackson County Prosecutor Melesa Johnson.

On August 18, Kansas City police responded to a residence regarding a reported arson. Firefighters entered the residence and removed a victim identified as 59-year-old Shirley Willis, according to KCPD Captain Jake Becchina. She was pronounced deceased.
