SCHENECTADY, N.Y. (NEWS10) — The Schenectady County District Attorney’s Office reported on Monday that 25-year-old Julio Duran pleaded guilty on July 30 in a firearm case. The Schenectady man is now expected to face seven years in state prison.

As part of his plea, Duran admitted to threatening two women with a loaded handgun during an argument at the Steinmetz Homes apartment complex around 9 a.m. on May 27. Duran was familiar with one of the victims, and he fled the scene shortly after the dispute, according to the SCDA.
Schenectady Police took Duran into custody after locating him in the area using an aerial drone. Officers then recovered Duran’s jacket, which had been discarded in the vicinity, and found that it contained a loaded Ruger pistol in one of the pockets.

“This case shows the usefulness of drone deployment by the police,” Schenectady County District Attorney Robert Carney stated. “Without these observations from the air, we may not have recovered this weapon that he used to threaten his victims, corroborating their accounts and removing another illegal handgun from our streets.”
Duran pleaded guilty to second-degree criminal possession of a weapon before Judge Lorraine Diamond. In addition to prison time, Duran faces five years of post-release supervision at his sentencing scheduled for September 23. 20-year orders of protection are also slated to be issued on behalf of the two victims…
