TROY, N.Y. (WTEN) — The Troy Turkey Troy is rebranding, but officials in charge of the event said it will be the same welcoming race it’s been for more than 100 years, just with a new direction.

Starting this year, the Thanksgiving Day race around Downtown Troy will be known as the Pioneer Troy Turkey Trot, named after the presenting sponsor of the competition, Pioneer Bank.
“I think people are going to expect the same thing,” said Tom Amell, president and CEO of Pioneer, who runs in the race each year. “A fantastic day, a well-run race, safe race. They’re able to get people in and out. The parking is fantastic. So I think people are expecting the same old, good service.”
All eyes were on the trot just two months ago when former event director, 73-year-old George Regan, was arrested by Troy Police for allegedly stealing more than $100,000 in his time organizing the races. He faced a charge of second-degree grand larceny at the time of his arrest, and NEWS10 is currently working to learn the status of his legal proceedings.
