Route 23 may reopen in June after fatal tanker crash, fuel spill

COPAKE — More than five weeks after a crash between a Subaru and a fuel tanker truck in eastern Columbia County killed a married couple and spilled thousands of gallons of gasoline into the ground and a nearby creek, a major route through the county remains closed as state agencies continue cleanup efforts.

There may be an end in sight, however. The state Department of Environmental Conservation told the Times Union this week that it expects state Route 23 to fully reopen in early June.
