WEB FIRST: ‘Washout’ affects Los Lunas wastewater plant Tuesday afternoon

LOS LUNAS — On Wednesday, April 22, the Village of Los Lunas reported an operational incident that occurred at its wastewater treatment plant on Tuesday afternoon.

During ongoing facility upgrades to the facility’s primary cleaning system late Tuesday, too much wastewater was diverted to the activated sludge treatment process, causing a an overload, or “washout” in the plant.
