Sandoval bilingual school opens new nature trail

RIO RANCHO — The sound of feet shifting through gravel and looks of wonderment among people’s faces under the late morning sun were evident Wednesday outside the Sandoval Academy of Bilingual Education.

SABE, a K-8 dual-language charter school that teaches Spanish and English, teamed up with Leadership Sandoval to build a nature trail along the southwest edge of the school’s parking lot. The project was unveiled Wednesday during a ceremony that included members of the program and campus community.

“This trail is more than just a path; it’s an extension of the classroom,” Craig Larsen, group leader with Leadership Sandoval, said during ceremonial remarks. “This is going to give students an area to come and explore science hands-on, learn and engage with the environment in a meaningful way.”…
