VIDEO: Suspected serial burglar shot during heist at Cardboard Collectors in Albuquerque

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – KRQE News 13 is seeing the moments a suspected serial burglar was shot during a heist and what he would later tell police about how he got the gunshot wound.

Albuquerque Police: Burglary suspect arrested after Nob Hill business owner shoots him

A string of more than a dozen burglaries across northeast Albuquerque would come to an end at the same place where it all started. For the second time in a matter of weeks, a local trading card store became the target of thieves. Surveillance video shows the door to Cardboard Collectors on Washington and Lomas, standing open after two people broke in.

It happened in the early hours of February 15. The video shows two masked thieves inside the store, taking items from the shelves and displays. But, they got interrupted when a neighboring business owner appeared at the door and fired a shot at one of the burglars. That man can be seen ducking down.

According to the criminal complaint, that business owner told Albuquerque police that the man popped back up, and the business owner thought he had a weapon. That’s when the business owner shot the man, later identified as Joseph Montoya, in the stomach…
