Former DC officer found guilty in $18K scheme using COVID relief funds: USAO

WASHINGTON (DC News Now) — A former Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) officer was found guilty on Monday for his role in a scheme to fraudulently acquire over $18,000 in COVID-era disaster relief funds, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office (USAO) for D.C.

Court documents stated that 39-year-old Roberto Adams was found guilty of wire fraud after a day-and-a-half deliberation by a federal jury.

According to court records, Adams received Paycheck Protection Program (PPP) loans starting in July 2020 for his janitorial business, SuperKlean LLC, which was not operating at the start of the pandemic.

The USAO stated that Adams spent all of the funds meant for his business within a month. The money was spent on casinos in Maryland and Las Vegas, flights and hotels in Miami, restaurants and bars and hangover treatments…
