Dangerous heat is settling across the Texas and Oklahoma Panhandles and parts of eastern New Mexico today, with temperatures climbing well into the triple digits. These conditions will increase the risk of heat-related illnesses.
The National Weather Service in Amarillo a Heat Advisory for portions of the central and southern Texas Panhandles as well as portions of eastern New Mexico. Temperatures up to 110 are possible, especially in the southeastern Texas Panhandle. Widespread temperatures of 103-107 are likely.
Prolonged exposure to the heat can quickly lead to heat exhaustion or heat stroke, especially for those working or spending extended time outdoors. Take frequent breaks in the shade or in air conditioning if available. Make sure to stay hydrated and check on your neighbors.
