ANCHORAGE, Alaska (KTUU) – Alaska Sen. Dan Sullivan is highlighting a proposed multi-billion-dollar modernization of Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson that he said would overhaul aging facilities, expand training capacity and bring a major economic lift to Anchorage.
Sullivan raised the issue in a Senate Armed Services Committee hearing, pointing to what the Air Force calls the “JBER Fighter Town recapitalization,” a plan tied to the administration’s defense budget.
During the hearing, Sullivan described the proposal as “a recapitalization to provide a new state-of-the-art fighter facility capable of supporting multiple platforms now and well into the future,” and said it carries a “$6.9 billion total authorization” with “$2 billion” sought up front…
