The Motown Museum will get to the bottom of the Motown sound once again with its annual Detroit Bass Day.
As the museum remains closed during construction, the day will be celebrated this year at the Esther Gordy Edwards Centre for Excellence, 2550 W. Grand Blvd., Detroit. It’s set for noon to 4 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 15. This year’s event will pay tribute to the late legendary Funk Brothers bassist James Jamerson, whose playing has been acknowledged as a key influence since the 1960s.
Motown arranger Paul Riser Sr., meanwhile, will receive a Motown Museum ICON Award for his contributions over the years.
The day will include performances by local musicians Kern Brantley, Emily Rogers, Brad Russell, Drew Skonie, Red Campbell, Gator Moore and Condido Live, as well as a Temptations Revue featuring Paul Williams Jr…
