DALLAS (KDAF) — The Dallas-Fort Worth metro area ranks second among major U.S. metropolitan areas for reported debt collection calls, following a 167.9% year-over-year increase in local debt collection complaints. The surge comes as total U.S. household debt reached a record $18.8 trillion, according to data from the Federal Reserve Bank of New York.
An analysis of Federal Trade Commission data by NumberBarn found 348 debt collection reports per 100,000 residents in the Dallas metro area in 2025. That accounted for 27,148 complaints in the region, placing Dallas behind only Atlanta nationwide.
