Rain and storm chances continue through Saturday

Copious amounts of rain and a few severe storms made things interesting yesterday across the region, but much like the rest of the week, it’s calm and muggy again to kick off this Friday. Clouds are quickly rolling back in from the west as the active pattern continues with a stalled front still overhead. Scattered showers and storms are already rolling in from the mountains, and more activity is expected to develop this afternoon with temperatures nearing 90 degrees. Unlike on Thursday, the rain and storms won’t be as widespread or as intense, with westerly winds nudging some drier air into the mix. That doesn’t mean the chance for heavy rain is zero, but it’s a lot lower. A Flood Watch is in place for Garrett, Mineral, and western Allegany Counties until 10 PM, where the highest chance of flooding is.

Showers and storms will roll through from the mid-afternoon into the evening before another warm and muggy night ahead. Some clouds and patchy fog will start our Saturday before the stalled front finally gets moving. This front will drop south steadily throughout the day, but will still have enough juice left to spark one more round of scattered afternoon showers and storms. Most of the wet weather will occur south of DC, with more sunshine and drier conditions likely to the north. Once this clears the area, humidity levels will tick down, and we’ll have a beautiful Sunday ahead to wrap up the weekend. Temperatures will be in the mid-80s under a partly cloudy sky as the lower-humidity feel takes hold.

This rare, comfortable feel will be short-lived, but it should last into Monday as northerly winds continue. Eventually, high pressure will settle to our southwest, giving us a lot of sunshine and heating things through the middle of the week. Afternoon highs will reach the mid-90s by Wednesday and Thursday, with humidity also starting to spike back up. It will be classically sweltering toward the end of next week, with some isolated showers and storms starting to pop back up by next Friday.

Have a great rest of your Friday and an amazing weekend!
