Teen shot in Atlanta; mother pleads for witnesses to come forward

ATLANTA, Ga. (Atlanta News First) — The mother of an 18-year-old shot in northwest Atlanta is asking anyone with information to contact police, as her son recovers from surgery at Grady Memorial Hospital.

DeQuaviyon Whatley was shot in the head in the 1300 block of Eason Street on Wednesday night.

Someone called to 911 around 10 p.m. Tuesday. Officers and detectives were on the scene throughout the overnight hours. The circumstances leading up to the shooting remain unknown.

Son ‘very loved,’ mother says

Whatley graduated last year from Benjamin E. Mays High School. His mother, Xzquee Whatley, said her son just came out of surgery and described what lies ahead.

“That’s my best friend, my baby, my first love. He’s smart, chill. He’s an Aries. [We call him] DJ, very well-known, very loved. He doesn’t back down, but he doesn’t start stuff,” Xzquee Whatley said…
