An armed suspect barricaded inside the 1400 block of South Federal Boulevard was taken into custody Thursday after a standoff that snarled traffic along the busy Southwest Denver corridor. Denver Police recovered a firearm at the scene, and the case remains under active investigation.
According to a post from the Denver Police Dept., the department warned residents they might experience travel delays in the area due to what it described as a barricade situation involving an armed suspect. The post, labeled ‘ALERT 1/2,’ said the situation had since been resolved, the suspect was in custody, and a firearm had been recovered. Police did not release additional details on what triggered the barricade or the suspect’s identity, and formal charges have not been announced.
The block sits within Denver Police District 4, which runs operations out of a station at 2100 South Clay Street in Southwest Denver, according to the City and County of Denver. South Federal Boulevard itself is a major commercial arterial that borders several residential neighborhoods, including Godsman, Ruby Hill, and Athmar Park, per city planning documents.
