August trial date set in case of deadly shooting over cremated remains

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) — Awaiting a report on supplemental DNA testing, defense counsel on Wednesday was granted a postponement in the trial of a man accused of fatally shooting a family member during a fight over his stepfather’s ashes.

Barney Crowles, out of custody, stood next to defense attorney Mark Anthony Raimondo while his murder trial was rescheduled Aug. 10.

Raimondo told the court both the report and availability of expert witnesses required the delay. Prosecutor Cole Sherman said he’d spoken with Raimondo ahead of Wednesday’s hearing and agreed to the new dates…
