Louisiana Heat Dome Tightens Grip as Baton Rouge Faces Heat Index Near 115

BATON ROUGE, La. — Louisiana is heading into another dangerous stretch of summer heat, but forecasters say the biggest concern is not simply how hot the thermometer gets — it is how hot the air will feel on the body.

Baton Rouge is expected to reach the upper 90s Sunday and Monday, with the National Weather Service forecasting a high near 99 degrees Sunday and 98 degrees Monday. More concerning, however, are projected heat-index values reaching 112 degrees Sunday and 111 degrees Monday.

An Extreme Heat Warning is scheduled for Sunday from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m., followed by another warning Monday during the same afternoon period. Forecasters are also watching Tuesday as the dangerous heat pattern continues…
