Former Louisiana First News Chief Meteorologist Jesse Gunkel reflects on historic 2016 flood

BATON ROUGE, La. (Louisiana First) — Ten years after historic rainfall inundated parts of south Louisiana, former Louisiana First News Chief Meteorologist Jesse Gunkel still vividly remembers watching the disaster unfold.

Gunkel served as chief meteorologist at Louisiana First News during the August 2016 flood, putting him in the position of forecasting the event and communicating an increasingly serious threat to viewers as relentless rainfall caused catastrophic flooding across the Baton Rouge area.
