State Police crack down on commercial trucks driving in left lane of Atchafalaya Basin Bridge

LOUISIANA (KPLC) – Louisiana State Police is cracking down on commercial trucks illegally driving in the left lane of the Atchafalaya Basin Bridge following a flood of complaints from local drivers.

State law prohibits large commercial trucks from using the left lane on the bridge, as doing so creates serious safety hazards and slows down traffic.

To address the issue, state troopers teamed up with an air support unit to run a targeted safety sweep along the bridge in St. Martin and Iberville parishes.

During the operation, troopers inspected 26 commercial trucks and issued 26 tickets to drivers who failed to stay in the right lane. Officers also found four other safety violations and ordered one driver to stop operating their vehicle immediately…
