BATON ROUGE, La. (Louisiana First) — A teen was adjudicated delinquent for the murder of her baby, District Attorney Scott Perrilloux announced Friday.
Perrilloux stated that Emely Amaya-Ponce, 15, has been committed to the custody of the Office of Juvenile Justice for juvenile life in connection with the death of her baby in 2025. He explained that delinquency adjudication is equivalent to a criminal conviction in adult court, meaning that she will be detained until she turns 21 without the possibility of parole.
According to the district attorney’s office, the baby was born alive in the teen’s bedroom, then killed with a sharp object to cut the neck.
