Former Baton Rouge police chief Murphy Paul has a new job in New Orleans, reemerging in a public role as chief deputy in the Orleans Parish Sheriff’s Office, second in command to newly seated Sheriff Michelle Woodfork.
A document provided by Woodfork’s office in response to a public records request shows Paul among 14 fresh hires for the office. Woodfork took office May 4 after beating an embattled incumbent, Susan Hutson.
Paul was part of Woodfork’s transition team. He resigned as Baton Rouge police chief in 2023 after five eventful years after previously serving as a Louisiana State Police trooper for almost 30 years.
