A veterinarian revealed the truth behind the lovable, almost-cryptid deformed raccoon Jimothy’s condition.
Jimothy, a four-legged Seattle resident, went viral after a short video showed the strange-looking animal visiting homes in a Ballard neighborhood. Experts have said the animal is simply a raccoon with likely short-spine syndrome, a rare congenital condition that affects its appearance.
That defect comes with a hard truth, said Brian Collins of the Cornell College of Veterinary Medicine. “If he doesn’t have the flexibility and agility to move from predators, this could turn out to be a sad story.
