ALDOT gives update on damaged bridge

CALERA – Interstate 65 southbound and the County Road 87 bridge are to remain closed following an incident that damaged the overpass.

A truck carrying a piece of equipment damaged the CR-87 overpass on I-65 on Aug. 25, covering the lanes in concrete debris. Crews have worked to clear the debris and to cut away the damaged rebar jutting from underneath the bridge.

The Alabama Department of Transportation shared that I-65 southbound and the CR-87 bridge will remain closed at Exit 234. ALDOT’s Emergency Bridge Inspection Crew is set to inspect the damage to the bridge and determine a safe timeline to reopen both the interstate and the bridge…
