N.Y. long-range summer forecast: Will it be hotter and rainier than usual?

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — New Yorkers should prepare for a hotter summer than usual, federal forecasters say, with the odds tilted toward above-average temperatures across the city and even higher chances of heat upstate and parts of Long Island.

Last month, the Climate Prediction Center published a pair of seasonal outlooks forecasting the odds of temperatures and precipitation amounts exceeding or falling short of their respective historical averages.
