Provocative Hollywood film critic dies

LOS ANGELES, California — Longtime film critic and entertainment journalist Rex Reed has died at 87. Reed went on to become one of the most recognizable, and controversial, voices in American movie criticism.

Reed died Tuesday at his Manhattan home following a short illness, according to publicist Sean Katz, who confirmed the death on behalf of Reed’s longtime friend William Kapfer, the AP reported.

Over a career spanning more than six decades, Reed became known for sharp-tongued reviews, celebrity interviews and commentary that often sparked debate across Hollywood and the media industry. He spent years writing for publications including “The New York Observer,” “New York Daily News,” “The New York Times,” “Vogue” and “Women’s Wear Daily.”…
