WHITESTOWN, Ind. — A Whitestown man has been taken into custody on a preliminary charge of attempted murder after he reportedly shot his father in the foot on Sunday evening.
According to a news release from the Whitestown Metropolitan Police Department, officers responded to a home in the 3700 block of Indigo Blue Boulevard at around 7:21 p.m. on Sunday after reports of a shooting.
When officers arrived, they reportedly found a man, later identified as 28-year-old Rutherford Keener, exiting the home “with his hands raised.” The release said that Keener “immediately stated to officers that he had shot his father,” leading to Keener being detained.
After Keener was detained, officers entered the home and located a man with a gunshot wound to his foot. He was transported to a local hospital and is in stable condition.

The release said Keener was transported to the Boone County Jail on preliminary charges of:
- Attempted murder
- Aggravated battery with a deadly weapon
- Criminal recklessness with a deadly weapon
