DALLAS, Texas — A Dallas man has been indicted by a federal grand jury in Texas after he reportedly threatened to kill federal judges in Indiana.
According to a news release from the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Northern District of Texas, 45-year-old Joseph Dale Lewis was charged by criminal complaint on July 31 for:
- Threatening to assault, kidnap or murder federal officials with the intent to impede, intimidate, interfere with or retaliate against such officials on account of the performance of their official duties.
Lewis was officially indicted on Aug. 26 in Dallas Federal Court, the release said.
“Threats against federal judges and elected officials strike at the foundation of our republic, and will not be tolerated by this office,” Ryan Raybould, the U.S. Attorney for the Northern District of Texas, said in the release. “This office is committed to standing up for our other branches of government, at both the state and federal level, so they can exercise their authorities under our Constitution free from intimidation and violence.”
