Ped Mall shooting victim moves to rehab center, suspect still awaiting extradition to Iowa

IOWA CITY, Iowa (IOWA’S NEWS NOW) — The University of Iowa student shot in the head during last month’s mass shooting in the Iowa City Ped Mall is continuing her recovery at a rehab center, according to an update from her sister.

Miranda Peters was the most seriously hurt of the five victims of the April 19 shooting, spending more than two weeks in intensive care. In an update to her GoFundMe page from May 21, Miranda’s sister says she was moved to a rehab center on May 18 – a day before the one-month anniversary of the shooting.

“(Miranda’s) rehab team continues to remind us that her young age is a huge positive and gives her brain more ability to heal and recover,” Janjay Peters says in the update. “We know there is still a long road ahead, but we are beyond grateful for every bit of progress she continues to make.” Peters adds that her sister has been “smiling, laughing, and reacting to conversations.”…
