Iowa City school board keeps superintendent on staff despite public criticism

IOWA CITY, Iowa (KCRG) – The Iowa City School Board voted Tuesday night to keep Superintendent Matt Degner on staff, allowing him to move into a different executive position despite public calls for his removal.

The board voted 4-2 to allow Degner to leave his contract early and take over as executive director for secondary schools. The decision comes as the district continues to work through a financial crisis that has been years in the making.
