Charleston Harbor Patrol prepares for busy Fourth of July on the water

CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCIV) — Charleston Harbor Patrol is preparing for one of its busiest nights of the year as thousands of people are expected to take to the water to watch Fourth of July fireworks.

Officers spent Friday escorting the city’s fireworks barge into position near Waterfront Park. The barge will remain under 24-hour security until Saturday night’s fireworks display.

“You can see they’re placing their spuds down to lock in the barge,” said Patrick French, an officer with Charleston Harbor Patrol. “Officers from the Charleston Metro Marine will be providing 24-hour security to keep the public at a safe distance from them.”…
