NCPD: Suspect arrested in Otranto Road homicide

NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCBD) – The North Charleston Police Department (NCPD) announced they have arrested a 35-year-old man in connection to a homicide that occurred Saturday night.

James Palmer Jr. was arrested near Fairwind Drive after being identified as a suspect in the Otranto Road homicide by NCPD investigators, said Harve Jacobs, NCPD spokesman.

The Charleston County Coroner identified the homicide victim as John Thomas III, 24, of Columbia, GA.

Palmer is charged with murder and possession of a deadly weapon during a violent crime.

Officers responded to a single-vehicle collision on Saturday at the 2800 block of Otranto Road.

Once on the scene, they discovered the vehicle had collided with a fence and tree on the property, said an incident report.

As a result, a live power line was on top of the vehicle. Firefighters arrived and pulled the victim, identified as Thomas, from the car.

Shortly afterward, officers discovered a gunshot wound and took Thomas to Trident Medical, stated the report.
