NEWTON, N.J. (WCIV) — Robert “Bob” McCaffrey, a former Charleston resident whose wife went missing in the area in 2012, will make his first court appearance in New Jersey Monday in connection to the 1990 cold case murder of Lisa McBride.
McCaffrey, who moved to the Lowcountry in 1996 and married Marjorie “Gayle” Broom a year later, is to be extradited from Dare County, North Carolina. He was arrested there after DNA evidence linked him to McBride’s murder.
His first appearance is scheduled for Monday, April 20 at 9:30 a.m. in Sussex County, New Jersey. A state court official previously said a first appearance for extradited suspects takes place within 24 hours of them setting foot in New Jersey, meaning it is likely McCaffrey will be extradited from North Carolina Sunday.
