Fire crews, police respond to fire at a Charleston motel

WEST ASHLEY, S.C. (WCSC) — Multiple fire units and the Charleston Police Department responded to a reported fire at a West Ashley motel Sunday afternoon.

Firefighters responded to the scene after receiving multiple reports of a fire at the West Ashley Inn in the 2000 block of Savannah Highway just before 2:30 p.m. Upon arrival, they noticed smoke and fire venting from the first-floor unit of the two-story motel.

Crews extinguished the fire within six minutes of arrival, while police assisted in safely evacuating residents and pets. The fire was declared under control in less than 20 minutes…
