‘This doesn’t have to happen’: Demand grows for Charleston streets to be pedestrian-safe

CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCSC) — Walking in the City of Charleston no longer feels safe, according to some residents, and they are calling on city leaders to implement stronger pedestrian safety measures.

The renewed push comes less than a month after 78-year-old Annelise Simmons, a pancreatic cancer survivor, was fatally struck by a truck while on a morning walk at the intersection of Broad and King streets in downtown Charleston.
