Tri-county leaders celebrate milestone in rapid transit bus line project

CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCBD) – The Berkeley Charleston Dorchester Council of Government is moving forward with a first-of-its-kind bus transit line, known as the Lowcountry Rapid Transit System, which leaders say will limit traffic congestion on the region’s largest interstates.

“If they don’t want to sit in traffic, they can ride the bus and let someone else do the driving for them and use our free wifi,” BCDCOG transit planner Sharon Hollis said.

Several people joined project leaders on Monday evening at the Charleston County Public Library to discuss the very first bus line, which would run parallel to the I-26 corridor. It will have stops from Ladson to downtown Charleston…
