DEKALB, Ill. — A Northern Illinois University student is facing an attempted murder charge after authorities said a man was stabbed during an altercation in downtown DeKalb early Saturday morning.
Lester E. Bowen, 25, of Lyons, was arrested around 2:03 a.m. Aug. 15 after DeKalb police responded to reports of a stabbing in the 100 block of East Lincoln Highway as area bars were closing for the night. Authorities said a 21-year-old DeKalb man suffered a stab wound to the torso and was taken to a local hospital before being transferred to a trauma center for surgery. Police said the victim was later listed in stable condition.
According to court records and police reports, officers arrived to find the wounded victim and identified Bowen as the suspect. Investigators alleged Bowen attempted to flee the area and discarded a knife that officers later recovered. Police said the knife appeared to have blood on it…
