OAK GROVE, KY (CHRISTIAN COUNTY NOW) – An elaborate bank fraud scheme in Oak Grove is continuing to unfold as second suspect is apprehended. Police in Illinois took an Indiana resident into custody based on a warrant issued by Christian County Courts for his involvement in a theft at the Oak Grove Navy Federal Credit Union.
In a news release on April 23, Oak Grove Police investigators allege that 55-year-old Wendell Christmas of Merrillville, Indiana played a key role in coordinating and recruiting individuals to assume stolen identities to steal funds from unsuspecting victims. Working with his accomplice, police say Christmas was able to steal over $25,000 from a victim in Oak Grove.
On October 7, 2025, the Oak Grove Police Department was contacted by Navy Federal Credit Union regarding fraudulent transactions occurring in a client’s account originating from the Oak Grove branch.
