OLMSTED FALLS, Ohio (WOIO) -A push in Washington to make daylight saving time permanent is drawing concern from at least one local school leader, who says darker winter mornings could create safety risks for students.
The House passed the Sunshine Protection Act with bipartisan support, but the measure faces growing opposition in the Senate. Any change would still require Senate approval and a presidential signature before taking effect.
Youngest students start earliest
Olmsted Falls Superintendent Dr. Jim Lloyd said the district’s youngest students are the first to leave for school, putting them outside before sunrise during the darkest months of the year.
“My biggest concern is wintertime,” Lloyd said. “It certainly doesn’t seem like it’s a bad idea in the summertime. But in the wintertime, I think that’s really where the biggest problem is.”…
