COLUMBUS, Ga. (WTVM) – The Homeland Security and Emergency Management Department is launching a volunteer training program focused on immediate disaster response and safety. The initiative was discussed during Tuesday night’s city council meeting.
Officials say the preventative skills can increase survival chances while residents wait for first responders.
First class completes training
One class has gone through the training so far. Pat Frey, president of the Oakland Park neighborhood association, said it was an eye-opening experience.
