Rural bus program in Central Iowa scales back services due to lack of funding

INDIANOLA, Iowa (KCRG) – A rural bus service is cutting back operations around central Iowa due to funding struggles.

The Heart of Iowa Regional Transportation Agency (HIRTA) says that they have had to reduce some service hours due to a lack of funding.

The impacts are being felt in the communities of Indianola, Perry and Knoxville. The agency currently serves 3,200 riders and makes around 135,000 trips per year…
