Skies will be partly sunny to mostly cloudy this morning with patchy fog. We will have a few spotty showers and downpours cross through southern Iowa this morning. A few showers may make their way up to Des Moines through late morning to early afternoon. Skies will clear out, and it will become hot and humid with heat index values up to 100°. It will be quite oppressive later today.
A slight risk of severe storms extends into northwest Iowa tonight.
This is because storm chances will increase again early Tuesday morning.
A complex of storms will form late tonight in South Dakota and drop south into northwest Iowa by daybreak on Tuesday. This storm may produce damaging winds and heavy rainfall, as well as frequent thunder and lightning.
It will become hot and humid again during the day on Tuesday with highs again in the 90s. With the stationary boundary still draped across Iowa, this will lead to more storm chances during the week. More storms will develop Tuesday evening at sunset. A few of these storms may be severe into the night.
Temperatures will drop back a bit to the 80s on Wednesday and 70s on Thursday. There will be more clouds and rain potential on Thursday for the start of the Io Fair.
